Death of a Whole Hog BBQ legend

Via Southern Foodways Alliance: WHOLE HOG (by Joe York, 2006) is a paean to the barbecue pitmasters, hog farmers, and butchers of rural western Tennessee, who everyday transform the lowly hog into the edible embodiment of two of the greatest human virtues, patience and hard work.

At the core of the story is whole hog stalwart Ricky Parker, pitmaster at Scott’s-Parker’s Barbecue in Lexington, Tennessee.

Ricky Parker passed away on April 27, 2013. He was 51.
